As well, some models of really powerful CPUs have come way down on the aftermarket. It can be a lot to keep up with. Along those lines, I’m going to be tracking these on a monthly basis, and sharing the results with you here.

Right now I’ll be tracking RAM, SSDs, Hard Drives, CPUs, and a couple of GPUs.

For now I’m focused on used hardware. As such, these prices are based on what you can get on Ebay. If there’s a demand for it, I might start tracking new hardware as well.

If there’s something you’re hoping I’ll track, let me know! This is just the first month and I expect it will grow over time. In particular, if there are models of enterprise SSDs you think are a better value than these Intel models, I’d be glad to take a look.

As of January 2nd, 2019:

Price Low* / Price High** / Part Name

SSDs

$73 / $98 / 480gb Intel DC S3500 ***
$145 / n/a / 800gb Intel DC S3500 ***
$255 / $270 / 1.6TB Intel DC S3500 ***

Hard Drives

$48 / $48 / 3TB HGST SATA
$170 / $180 / 8TB HGST SATA
$220 / $230 / 10TB HGST SATA
$530 / $530 / 12TB HGST SATA (this drive is cheaper new)

DDR3 RAM

$14 / $15 / 8GB DDR3 (a)
$19 / $20 / 8GB DDR3 (b)
$33 / $35 / 16GB DDR3 (a)
$29 / $39 / 16GB DDR3 (b)
$87 / $100 / 32GB DDR3 (c)

DDR4 RAM

$49 / $65 / 8GB DDR4 (d)
$49 / $100 / 8GB DDR4 (e)
$90 / $95 / 16GB DDR4 (d)
$120 / $140 / 16GB DDR4 (e)
$265 / $280 / 32GB DDR4 (d)
$255 / $280 / 32GB DDR4 (e)

E5v2 CPUs

$110 / $130 / E5-2660v2
$188 / $188 / E5-2680v2
$300 / $380 / E5-2697v2

E5v3 CPUs

$250 / $350 / E5-2650v3
$240 / $350 / E5-2660v3
$300 / $690 / E5-2670v3
$300 / $325 / E5-2680v3

$480 / $590 / E5-2690v3
$600 / n/a / E5-2695v3
$950 / $950 / E5-2698v3
$1750 / $2800 / E5-2699v3

E5v4 CPUs

$950 / n/a / E5-2650v4
$1200 / n/a / E5-2660v4
$1800 / $1800 / E5-2680v4
$1850 / $2150 / E5-2690v4

Graphics Cards

$565 / $600 / Nvidia GTX 1080Ti
$380 / $450 / AMD Vega 64

Definition of terms / references:

* Price Low -- The lowest price to buy this part from a reputable seller in a moderate quantity, price as shipped to the US

** Price High -- There is a reasonably large quantity of this part available from multiple reputable sellers for this price or lower, price as shipped to the US

*** Price for the lowest priced drive of this size, matching this model number or better in the same class. "Same class" would mean sata (S) or nvme (P), as applicable. "Better" means a higher model number than listed.
