Server Pricing Report – December 2022
Welcome to the twelfth and final installment of our monthly server pricing report for 2022.
Since 2019, we have been tracking changing parts prices for RAM, SSDs, Hard Drives, and various CPUs. This data is collected monthly, and then shared on this blog.
Currently, all listed prices are from eBay, for used hardware. We focus on used hardware because these prices change more frequently and this gives a better feel for changes in value.

Back in May of this year we began showcasing graphs with a 12-month timeframe for different types of items. Going forward, we think this will be a better visual representation of price fluctuations and will hopefully help identify pricing trends on the aftermarket.
This month we would like to highlight the 12-month graph for DDR3 Ram:
- The downward trend for DDR3 Ram types has been steadily contuing throughout 2022, and the differences in price can be clearly seen from the graph above.
- The biggest change comes in the price for 64GB DIMM modules, as they were priced well above $100 previously and can now be found for under half that price. This may be due to a oversaturation of DDR3 DIMMs on the aftermarket now that systems supporting DDR4 memory can be acquired at competitive prices.
- The outliers from this pattern are mainly the 8GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600E ECC REG modules, and this can be due to the short supply on the aftermarket. Systems supporting this memory are no longer being made and the DIMMS themselves have been EOL for a while. As such it is rare to find a vendor offering these DIMMS in large bulk amounts, and with each listing that does pop up, they are usually listed at a premium above more common 8GB DDR3 DIMMS.
- We have also observed a small surge in pricing for the 32GB DIMMS, however this is likely due to a high popularity, rather than due to short supply. However now that the 64GB RAM Modules are being sold at a very low price, we may see them become the new popular choice as they are now a better price when compared at GB per $.
