Server Pricing Report – December 2021

Welcome to the eleventh installment of our monthly server price reporting for 2021.

purple ram and nvme

If you were following along, last year we’ve been tracking changing parts prices for RAM, SSDs, Hard Drives, and various CPUs. Typically this is done monthly, and then shared on our blog.

Currently, all listed prices are from eBay, for used hardware. I may start tracking more new hardware as well if there is a demand for it.

Prices as of December 1st, 2021

+ or – indicates if the price has gone up or down since last month

Some noteworthy changes from last month:

  • Make sure you check our blog! We recently published an article full of helpful tips to help you navigate the second hand server hardware ma0rket on eBay! You can read our Buyer BeAware post here!
  • We have also recently published a post discussing the Base Clock, Max Turbo, and All Cores Turbo to help break through some of the confusion around CPU core performances. You can read about our All Cores Turbo post here.
  • For the past months we have been tracking Xeon Platinum 8160 CPU Prices, however this month the CPU was all -but- unavailable.
  • Alternatively, we will track the price for Xeon Platinum 8168 CPUs this month.
  • There is a shortage on availability for 1.6TB Intel P3605 NVMe (U.2) as well as the 32GB DDR4 RAM(e)
  • Other parts have seen a noticeable fluctuation in price and stock.
  • All Types of DDR3 RAM are more available than the prior month, resulting in a larger spread of prices and sellers
  • Similarly, CPUs of all types are readily available, many sellers are advertising listings at low prices.
  • Specifically for drives, we are seeing a resurgence in availability for Samsung PM863 1.92TB SATA, HGST Ultrastar SSD1600MM 1.6TB SSD SAS and the 3TB HGST SATA
  • If you’d like to see more parts added to the list, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
